Hitchcock Residence

Prelude:

Reva works for a local pool shop that Bruce, co-founder of GHOTS, frequents. Reva learned that we researched the paranormal and invited Bruce over with the team.

The house is an older house that appeared to be made in the late 1890’s or early 1900’s. There had only been one owner of the house, and has been used as a rental for quite some time.

During the walkthrough it was noticed that the two adjoining living rooms on the right side of the house had fireplaces that were separated by quite a distance. The fireplaces were fixed at a 45 degree angle meaning that behind the fire places there was about 100 sq ft of unused space. Unused space was uncommon in this era of house, but what was common in houses of this age were hidden séance rooms which was extremely popular in the early 1900’s. Historical research of this house failed to produce any relevant data.

Reported Activity:

The reported activity doesn’t appear to be redundant or cyclic in nature. The experiences and activity tend to occur at random. Some of the activity that Reva and her daughter have experienced is: sensing a cat rubbing on her feet, the front door not staying shut when they have company.
Reva has seen a man walking down hallway into the bathroom. Both Reva and her daughter of witnessed a shadow going under the hallway closet. Reva’s animals have started some odd bad habits for no apparent reason. Reva’s daughter had her shoes move after she just took them off.

Also reported by the client was a chair that would tend to topple on its own. They would fix the chair upright but in the morning the chair would be laying down on its back.

Baseline Readings:

NOAA Planetary K-Index: 2 Kp
NOAA Geomagnetic Field: ~90 nT
*K-indices of 5 or greater indicate storm-level geomagnetic activity.
**Research done thus far shows there is a direct correlation between paranormal activity and the strength of the of the earths geomagnetic field.
As we started the investigation the first thing we noticed was an exceedingly high electric and magnetic field throughout the house. We were able to measure the field and averaged it to the curb at ~10.2 mG. The high EMF was due to a power substation about 75’ from Reva’s house.

Electric and Magnetic Field Readings
• 0 - 2.5 mG ("normal/safe")
• 2.5 - 7 mG ("above normal/caution")
• 7 or more mG ("high/dangerous")
Reading Level Area Notes
10.7 Front Living Room Nothing to note
9.3 Middle Living Room Nothing to note
10.0 Empty Bedroom Nothing to note
9.2 Dining Room Nothing to note
9.1 Daughters Bedroom Nothing to note
7.5 Bathroom Nothing to note
5.7 Reva's Room Nothing to note
10.3 Kitchen Nothing to note

Prolonged exposure to high electric and magnetic fields has shown to create spooky and uneasy feelings in people that are hypersensitive to these fields. Prolonged exposure to exceedingly high em fields has been shown to cause cancer.

All temperatures are logged below. No abnormal temperature readings were noted.

77.4 Bathroom Nothing to note
77.6 Reva's Room Nothing to note

Another factor we looked at was resonance frequency of the house. Older houses tend to be long and open in the way they were built, quite similar to a hollow tube. The thoroughfare of the house was ~44’ in length and connected 3 rooms.

A little about resonance frequencies: "Infrasonic frequencies are felt as vibrations which, if intense enough, may result in feelings of nausea, vertigo, hallucination and eventual black-out or internal hemorrhaging".

Resonant frequency is how many times per second sound travels between a cavity and returns to its starting point. Resonant frequencies for some areas were calculated at an adjusted room temperature of 72 F with the following formula: (1131.743 f/s) / (2 * Cavity Width (in feet)). Note that the 1131.743 feet/second figure is the speed sound travels at in room temperature and frequencies below or near Alpha brain wave (< 13 Hz) are of concern. In the thoroughfare the resonant frequency was 12.86 Hz.

Experiential and Observational Analysis:

Early in the evening an investigator heard an audible growl while in the daughters bedroom. Later in the investigation while sitting in the living room, several investigators heard the audible growl.

Towards the end of the investigation and after some provoking, the investigators heard something from within the kitchen. As they walked into the kitchen it was noticed that an old, extremely heavy door, leading outside was open and off the hinges. This is important to note, because early in the investigation Bruce opened the door and it had fallen to the ground. It took two people to lift the door up and put it back in place since the door was so heavy. When Bruce opened it initially, he could only get the door open a few inches. What we observed at the end of the night was that the door was opened by at least a foot and a half.

Conclusion:

Of concern to us is the extremely high electric and magnetic field within the house that is being produced by Alabama powers subsystem just outside the door of the house. The high em field is measurable to the curb of her yard. We feel that Reva should contact Alabama power as the emission could be potentially dangerous. The high em field could contribute to the spookiness that some of Reva’s friends have felt within the house. Some theories also suggest that ghost feed off this type of free energy.

After looking at the chair that topples over, we found that it was fairly hard to move. The center of gravity on the chair was a bit higher than on most, but it was still hard to push over. It was noticed that when one of her cats jumped on top of the chair the center of gravity raised a little, so it is possible that if two cats were playing on the chair and jumping off the chair could topple.

The opened door at the end of the investigation was of extreme interest. When Bruce first opened the door, he could only get it open a few inches, but at the end of the night it was opened about a foot and a half. In order to do this, without being heard, it would have taken two people lifting the door and swinging it open.
The sound anomalies on the recorders were amazing. During an investigation we, the team, ensure to keep it down and talk regularly; as is standard protocol. Under no circumstances does the team yell and scream, so hearing yelling and screaming on the recordings certainly makes us question what is happening at the house.

No one in the team can deny the fact that we heard the growling, and that a heavy door slid open on its own when quite frankly, it was in such bad disrepair that it shouldn’t have even budged.

Although the em fields are excessively high, we do not believe that it is the cause of the events happening within the house. Based on our experiences, and the data collected; it is our conclusion that the Hitchcock residence has an active, intelligent haunting.
